Silver is an antibiotic, its properties have been known since ancient times. The saying 'born with a silver spoon in your mouth' refers to infants of wealthy families who could afford to buy their babies silver pacifiers. Babies so treated had a heightened degree of protection against infections and therefore did better in the sickness department. Because of this silver has been incorporated into the mythological realm of things.

The phrase 'born with a silver spoon in his mouth' refers to the silver pacifiers that rich babies were given to suck as a means of preventive infection. From this I believe it is easy to see how silver would find its way into the realm of 'being a treatment for the werewolf condition.'

Truly, it may only give them an alergic reaction. and yes who ever started the "werewolves are insane sycopaths" myth told it that way, what a liar. and, if you got shot with a silver bullet, chanses are, you could die too.
