Why are children most affected by dengue compared to adults?

They may not actually be more likely to catch it, but when they do, it is a more serious and potentially deadly disease for them. This is true of any type of influenza, not only Swine Flu (H1N1/09). Children, especially infants, have immature immune systems that are not prepared for a battle with a strong virus, and infants under 6 months old can not yet be given vaccinations to prevent the disease because of their immature systems. The elderly often have poorly functioning immune systems with the same problems and, even when they get a vaccination, it may not be as effective in their weakened states, especially if they have other underlying health issues putting them at higher risk for complications.
