Black thread in 2,4,6,8 twists, preferably with 9 knots excluding the knot for tying,(i.e. total 10 knots) must be worn on left leg of women and right leg of men on Saturday evening or Late night, alongwith chanting shani Mantra, to get protection from evil eyes. Rudra Gayathri mantra, prior to or after application of black thread keep it holy and charged. No other colourful threads should be worn while wearing black thread. Proper muhurat should be established before wearing it. Contacting unholy things, including seemingly touchwood with dead bodies, burning Ghat, coffin, graveyard, etc. Makes the black thread powerless and the thread must be discarded off immediately and replaced by new one after observing rituals related to its application.
