Not exactly. Gamma rays belong to the class of EM waves, just like radio, microwave, light, and Xrays. EM waves get absorbed by metals. The higher the atomic weight of the element, the faster the EM wave get absorbed during penetration. The absorption is due to electrons taking in the gamma energy and convert the incoming energy to heat or light or ionizing events. The heavy atomic nuclei can also redirect the direction of the radiation and turn it at an angle or totally reflected. Hence, EM wave will penetrate less in Pb than in Al, for example. In order to shield gamma rays (or Xrays) from harming a human or an integrated circuit, a thicker Al shield will be needed than a Pb shield. Please try the related link for visualization.

Because of their high energy, gamma rays travel at the speed of light and can cover hundreds to thousands of feet in air before expending their energy. Gamma rays have the shortest wavelength and hence the highest energy.

Gamma rays are called penetrating radiation because they have high energy and can penetrate many materials to a considerable depth. It requires a significant thickness of a dense material such as lead to stop gamma rays. This is in contrast to alpha rays, which are non-penetrating. Even a sheet of paper is enough to stop most alpha particles. Beta rays are somewhere in between.

No. Gamma rays are part of the electromagnetic radiation spectrum and so have the same velocity as light.

Gamma rays have high penetrating powers due to the high amount of radiation they emit. The high frequency and high energy in return produce a large amount of power.

What kind of electromagnetic energy penetrates solids?

All electromagnetic waves technically have the ability to penetrate solids depending on the solid itself. However in a practical sense:- High energy electromagnetic particles can pass through solids such as X-rays (to some extent) and Gamma rays which can pass through several metres of lead reinforced concrete. Radio waves and microwaves can also pass through solids hence why we use these frequencies to communicate. Infra-red can permeate through house walls and such. Hence why infrared cameras are used by police. visible and ultraviolet will only pass through transparent substances or really thin solids. They are more likely to be absorbed or reflected than to pass through objects.

Which type of barriers can gamma particle penetrate through?

Gamma radiation is highly penetrative, and can pass through many substances without stopping. Several centimetres of lead or several meters of concrete is required to dissipate gamma radiation.

Will gamma radiation pass through plastic wrappers?

Yes, Gamma rays can pass through a metal sheet.Gamma rays are the most penetrating of the radiations.Gamma rays are highly energetic waves. It cannot be said that a particular thickness of a material can absorb all gamma radiation. Many centimeters of lead or many meters of concrete are required to absorb high levels of gamma rays.

Will gamma rays passes through egg?

Yes, gamma rays will pass through an egg.

What definition is closest in meaning to the word penetrate in the sentence The deep sea divers kept warm by wearing suits that water could not penetrate?

"Penetrate" in this sentence means "pass through" as in "pass through a barrier", as the suit created a barrier through which no water could pass. It also has the meaning of "enter through an orifice", as there were no holes in the suit through which the water could enter.

Do secondary waves travel through solids but not through liquids?

Secondary waves are transverse or shear waves which are able to pass through solids, but are not able to pass through liquids.

gamma

How do gamma rays pass through the body?

gamma rays pass through the body by being absorbed by the skin and entering your body causing internal and external damage.

What form of electromagnetic radiation passes through skin but not bone?

Alpha radiation, it's force is too weak to even penetrate the outer layer of dead skin. Beta and Gamma radiation can pass through, Beta has trouble passing through clothes whereas Gamma is able to go straight through the body.

What does light not pass through?

non-clear solids

How do solids pass through liquids?

By displacing the liquid.
