Why can the vulume of a gas change and the solid of a remain constaant?

In a solid, particles are packed tightly to each other while the gas particles are not packed tightly. So the gas particles can be compressed and can change the volume. Solids cannot be compressed to change the volume.

How the motion of particles differ in gases liquids and solids.?

The motion of particles in gasses, liquids, and solids are all different. Gas particles can move much more quickly than solids.

Are liquids and solids particles heavier than gas particles?

What has to be overcome for a solid to change to a liquid and a liquid to a gas?

The energy between particles. The particles must be heated so that there is no forces of attraction, therefore the solids particles can loosen into liquid particles and the liquids particles can loosen into gas, the heat energy is used to make the particles move faster

Are the particles of gas are packed tightly together?

No, they are not packed tightly together. The particles in solids are. In gas, they move in random motion and are the furthest apart, compared to solids and liquids. Hope this helps :)

Is dust a form of gas?

No - you cannot see gas particles. Dust specks are solids.

Why is diffusion slowest in solids and fastest in gas?

Maybe its the slowest in solids because the particles on it is compressed or tightly squeezed. While in gas, they are the fastest because the particles moves freely because gas is the most spacious matter of the 4.

Are substances made of particles?

there are lots of substances made up of particles, solids, liquids, gas etc.

Are particles of a gas close together?

No they are the furtherst away out of solids, liquids and gases.

How do you describe solids liquids and gases in terms of volume and shapes?

(This Question Can Not Have An Awnser Due To Science Book Copyright! All comments leave to wikiawnsers@awnsers.com! Thanks!)If you pour a liquid in a container or a cup, the liquid takes the shape of the container or cup, and the particles in the liquid ( which is in the container ) only move a little bit, the particles in the liquid is not gas ( which moves everywhere ) even when liquids change shape, they dont change volume. A gas if you put helium in a balloon the particles doesnt really take the shape it makes the shape and the particles of the gas in the cylinder (Helium tank ) are much closer together than the particles of the gas in the balloons. Then a solid, differing arrangements of particles in crystalline solids and amorphous solids lead to different properties. the particles in an amorphous solid do not have an orderly arrangement. the particles in a crystalline solid have a very orderly arrangement.
