Alexander Wolcott was a dentist and an inventor. He was born in 1804 and died in 1844. He claims to be the inventor of the first camera but he wasn't!
Alexander Wolcott was the first person in the world to get a patent for a camera in 1839 but the first camera was a device called the camera obscura which was used by artists to help make paintings of their clients and it was in use in China before 500 BCE.
so people could remember their good times
Alexander Wolcott wanted to invent a camera to capture and preserve images more accurately and efficiently than traditional methods like hand-drawing or painting. He saw the potential for a device that could record images as they appear in real life, allowing people to document important moments with greater detail and realism.

US Patent No. 1582
Developed by Alexander S. Wolcott and John Johnson, Wolcott camera was originally design for daguerreotype. Unlike other cameras, a daguerreotype plate in a Wolcott camera is placed in front of focusing system, and is counter-face its object, since the camera uses a concave mirror to project the image. An opening in top of the camera acts as a viewfinder, and a white screen is placed in a moveable plate holder to see if image is in focus, before the plate is loaded. At the end of exposure, a sliding shutter keeps the plate from further exposure.
Marvin Cameras invented a wire recording device in the 1930s.
