Why did Benny and Frida of ABBA divorce?

They simply fell out of love. They'd been going through a rough time and Benny had met someone else in late 1980. Frida supposedly knew about the relationship and accepted that her marriage was over.
In his excellent ABBA biography, Carl Magnus Palm quotes Frida as saying, "I don't know exactly what went wrong. Maybe it was the strain of working together, never having time for our private life. we were never able to sit down as two indviduals and decide what we wanted from our lives. It was a mixture of everything...Abba took a great part of our lives." Many Frida fans blamed Benny, because he apparently started a relationship with another woman, Mona Norklit, several months before the divorce was announced in February 1981. (They married in November 1981.) But it appears the relationship was struggling long before that.

I guess it depends on who you ask. Some say that Benny found someone else, he says it had nothing to do with the breakup. I find that a little hard to believe. Bjorn said the same thing when he split with Agnetha. Within the week he was appearing with another woman on his arm. So we may never know what happened between Benny and Frida, I suppose it really isn't anyone's business but their own.

According to ABBA's biographer, Carl Magnus Palm, the two just drifted in different directions. Bjorn was very much a workaholic, and loved to spend countless hours in the studio writing and producing. Agnetha, particularly after she had her first child in 1973, hated spending time away from her kids and grew to fear touring, both the travel part and the constant attention from fans.

There was not a single incident that caused the breakup of Bjorn and Agnetha, but a combination of things. Working together for such a long time, especially the touring, was exhausting for the band members. The friction of fame and the pressures of marriage and parenting two chiildren were too much for the couple. They felt it was best to end the marriage.
