When did Barack Obamas parents divorce?

They were divorced when Barack was two years old . The date of the divorce decree is March 5, 1964 in Honolulu. There are many questions about the details of their marriage and of the divorce. Apparently there is no record of their marriage and Obama, Sr. was not notified of the divorce proceedings.

The other, from Harvard, offered only support for him by himself. Harvard was the more prestigious choice and he took it. He never came back to Hawaii, though, and never sent for his family. Obama's mother eventually asked for a divorce and his father signed the papers. No one knows what went on except his mother and father, and they never filled in the details. Obama's father, though, came from an African tribe that practiced polygamy. At the time he married Obama's mother, his wife in Africa was pregnant with their second child. Apparently, he first told Obama's mother than he was divorced, then later told her it wasn't a registered marriage and it didn't count. Obama's African family apparently thought that one day he and his mother would come and live with the first wife, as had been the custom. The only time Obama met his father, when he was 11, his father had come to Hawaii to try and convince Obama's mother to come back to Africa with him. At this time, his second American wife (third wife) had divorced him, but stayed in Africa and married another African businessman.

He was a baby when his father left and his mother filed for divorce. I doubt that he thought much about it since he did not know his father. Of course, he eventually realized that his mom was a single mother but he did no know any other way of life so he did not have anything new to face.
