The two parts were incompatible. South Carolina was mainly English, merchant or planter class and wealthy with respect for the British and authority. North Carolina was Scoth-Irish, backwoodsmen and couldn't stand the British or authority figures.

Tensions arose around 1690, but the split did not become official until 1712. However, in 1719, South Carolina became its own legal entity and royal colony. ummm no they split in 1729 and that's from my text book so if your not 100 percent sure dont answer the question
what colony was split in 2 colonys
"Carolina" was granted a royal charter in 1663. If we consider this the beginning of "North Carolina" this would be the 8thof the 13 colonies formed. (This is the usual way the colony is counted.)However, the official division into "North" and "South" Carolina did not take place until 1729 (and in 1732 part of South Carolina was set apart to become Georgia). Since New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania were founded between 1663 and 1729, North Carolina as a distinct colony might then be counted as the 11th colony formed.
The way of life on the South Carolina colony was that men work on farms, women took care of home and some rich kids went to school most of the other kids helped their parents in the daily chores.
It was a proprietary colony until it obtained a royal charter by King Charles II in 1729. A proprietary colony (in case you don't know) is a colony run by either an individual or a group of people who get land. Accutally it had no government until the charter and it became a royal colony.
It was founded in 1663 but became a royal colony in 1729. When it became a royal colony, it was then split into North Carolina & South Carolina

In 1710, due to disputes over governance, the Carolina colony began to split into North Carolina and South Carolina. The latter became a crown colony in 1729. It had nothing to do with the Civil war as both Carolinas exhisted before the War and both sides joined the South
