It is unknown whether the 1st Lord Baltimore ever set foot on the land that became the Maryland Colony but he probably saw it from his ship when he was returning from his failed Colony of Avalon in Newfoundland and stopped off in Jamestown.

Leonard Calvert as the first Governor of the Colony had the able services of the Captains and Crew of the Ark and the Dove which transported the first colonists to Maryland.
