The first European to see Lake Huron was not Samuel de Champlain, it was Etienne Brule.
Because Champlain was his name, and as the European discoverer, he had the naming rights.
Champlain did discover Lake Champlain and sorry for this but isn't kinda obvious that he discovered that lake. It has his last name in it...
