Schulz biographies have explained he created a L'IL FOLKS comic strip and later used the idea for his newer creation. The editors came up with PEANUTS for the name (and it has little to do with any of the characters) and Schulz strongly disliked the choice but the strip gained a lot of popularity and it turned out the name Peanuts had to stay.

He did not want to originally. He thought that it was horrible for children to be called "peanuts" but the newspaper he was working for at the time thought it was a good idea so he reluctantly dubbed it "peanuts".

Schulz explained that he chose the name "Peanuts" because it was a term from his childhood that he associated with children. The name was suggested by a United Features Syndicate editor, and Schulz found it to be a good fit for his characters.

It is hard to say. There is no character in the strip nicknamed (Peanuts) some people apply this title to Charlie Brown, but actually he is never addressed, even in jest as ( Peanuts) In popular jokes- yes, like the one about the Camp Counselor attempting to find out who threw Peanuts in the Water! Bu that was not in the strip. Nor was the strip tied into any junk or snack food line like Reese"s Pieces were with the E.T.

The term "Peanuts" was chosen , not by its creator , by United Feature Syndicate who selected the name to avoid any confusion with two popular comic-strips at that time named "Li'l Abner" and "Little Folks" .

Charles Schulz never liked the title saying "It's totally ridiculous, has no meaning, is simply confusing, and has no dignity-and I think my humor has dignity."
