They stored their food in earthenware jugs and in wooden casks. They also stored in other containers but i am not aware of them so you can google that and probably find the answer there.

They never did run out of food. They got low on the dried beef, hard tack, and dried peas they ate everyday, but didn't run out. They were only at sea 32 days before they spotted land.
