The Lakota people were a nomadic people, moving from place to place around the Great Plains. Although Crazy Horse was born in South Dakota, he lived all over the Great Plains, in South Dakota, Nebraska, Wyoming, and Montana, from the Missouri River to the Big Horn Mountains. It was on May 6, 1877 that Crazy Horse arrived at Fort Robinson in Nebraska and surrendered. Crazy Horse was ordered to remain at the Red Cloud Agency which was located in northwestern Nebraska at that time. He was arrested when he left the agency to take his sick wife to his parents. During a skirmish at Fort Robinson, after his arrest, Crazy Horse was bayoneted and died from his wounds on September 5, 1877.
