The late Jerome Lester "Jerry" Horwitz (October 22, 1903 - January 18, 1952) , who played the role of Curly Howard was forced to retire due to having a stroke May 6, 1946 and left The Three Stooges after filming "Half-Wits Holiday" .

Curly suffered a stroke while filming Half-Wits Holiday in 1946. He never made a full recovery although he did a cameo bit in Hold That Lion in 1947. He suffered another stroke in 1948 and spent the final three years of his life (Curly passed away January 18, 1952) in and out of hospitals and rehab centers.
