What we have in Genesis is, at first, a broad overview of the Creation and what the the Creator did - create the "heavens and earth". The following verses are a detailed account of what the sequence of the creation was. Then comes a more microscopic or, if you prefer a different metaphor, an exploded view of man (and woman) and their relationship to God both by interaction with Him and their assignments for how they were to relate to the rest of the creation: be fruitful, tend the Garden and oversee the animals. They were created last because they were the purpose of the creation from the beginning - to be the pinnacle of the Creation, to do God's work on earth.

∙ 13y agoGod created man last, because, first, the earth had to be formed, if not where could He have put them? Second, Man needed food in order to survive, so God put plants on the Earth, so they could eat. Third, He made animals of all kinds to feed man as well, (with their meat) and also to give man company. I hope this answer helps!

In the first account (Genesis 1:1-2:4a ) God did create man and woman last.
However in the second account (Genesis 2:4bff), God first created Adam, then he made the creatures of earth, one by one, then finally Eve. In this second account, God made Eve last, because Adam could find no help meet among the other creatures.
