Britain allied with the Native Americans along the US western frontier before and during the War of 1812 for at least two reasons.

First, before the Revolution, the British had made treaties with the tribes that called for British settlements to be held to the eastern side of the mountains, along the coast where an imperial power could more effectively govern them.

Second, by strengthening the Natives, the British might prevent or restrict the western expansion of the new country, thus reducing and danger it might post to their other American colonies and perhaps eventually forcing them back into the British Empire.
