She said that she had to kill someone important off and she was right to do so because otherwise it would have been too perfect. She was going to kill off Arthur Weasley but said that would be wrong because he was the only nice father figure left. She also said if she didn't kill someone off it would've been to happy of a story.
But she could've killed of Percy in my honest opinion.

∙ 11y agoJ.K. Rowling said she killed Dobby because before his death Harry was having trouble deciding whether to continue his search for the Horcrux's or begin to search for the Deathly Hallows. J.K. said that Dobby's death "woke Harry up" and he realized what he had to do. From the moment Harry buried Dobby the Free Elf he worked non-stop on finding the Horcrux's and defeating Voldemort. Dobby was always supposed to die, if it helps any, he was one of those sad, innocent victims like Cedric Diggory that are needed to make the story and make the end result even more satisfying. Dobby's death was the hardest one to bear for me so I understand.
