He lived by himself to be away from people until his mission was to occur which was to be the forerunner for the Messiah/Christ/Anointed One. Just like Elijah will be the forerunner for Messiah's return back to earth to get us. And as Elijah is gone now and we won't see him until the time is right for him to come with Enoch as one of the 2 witnesses...John was absent until he was preparing the pathway for YAHVEH so says Isaiah 40:3 and so YHVH our God came in the body of a human called Yeshua-(aka Jesus) known as Immanuel(God with us), Here's how Isaiah reads: The voice of him that cries in the wilderness, Prepare you the way of YAHVEH, make straight in the desert a highway for our Elohim(God). And here's the Hebrew word for wilderness/desert Strings #H4057 מדבּר midbâr mid-bawr' From H1696(daw-bar) in the sense of driving;a pasture (that is, open field, whither cattle are driven); by implication a desert; also speech (including its organs): - desert, south, speech, wilderness.
