It is likely that the stable that Mary and Joseph stayed in had some animals and a feeding trough. The trough or manger is where they laid Jesus after he was born.
Joseph, Mary and the animals were in the stable, when Jesus was born.
We do not know the time of day or night. We do not know the day or even the month Joseph and Mary reached the stable. The Bible does not tell us.
Jesus was born in a stable in Bethlehem in Judea.

a stable next to the inn, that was full up.
Jesus was born in Bathlehem. Mary and Joesph travelled for miles to find a place to stay but all the inns were full. Therefore Jesus was born in a stable.
