In season 3 in the last episode, prue, piper and phoebe help a doctor to escape from shax but piper dies and phoebe is in the underworld with Leo. Cole and Phoebe ask the source if he can make time go back before piper died. when time is put back, shax comes to the house, phoebe is in the underworld and cannot say the spell to get rid of him so he kills piper, prue and the doctor. when Leo comes back he is only able to save piper. so piper feels guilty and wishes leo saved prue instead of herself and phoebe doesnt even cry at the funeral because she wants to be strong for piper :(

I know its alot, but this is a full summary of the entire episode. If you wish to know just how Prue died, scroll down until you see the bolded script. You may read just that.

Synopsis:

Piper and Prue find themselves on a mission to protect a doctor, who had saved one too many lives, from a demon assassin named Shax who works for The Source. The doctor being an atheist can't believe that demons and witches exist on the same planet he does until Shax unexpectedly bursts through the front door and using his unusual wind powers, throws Prue and Piper through the wall. Phoebe rushes from the attic and casts a spell to wound the demon and scare him off. Luckily, Leo is able to save both Prue and Piper from death.

Phoebe and Leo return to the underworld to help Cole and Prue and Piper wander the streets in attempt to find their demon, Shax. After finding him, Piper uses her newly discovered power and blasts him, unfortunately only wounding him once again. He disappears right as a camera crew catches everything on tape...

Returning to the hospital in fear that Shax is still alive and still very dangerous, they feel the need to keep a watchful eye on the doctor. While they are leaving the hospital, Shax unexpectedly appears and Prue and Piper are forced to recite the vanquishing spell in front of everyone. The good news is that Shax is finally dead even though their secret is entirely exposed.

It's not long until a crowd forms around the Manor consisting of news casts, believers and journalists who wish to catch an interesting story. A girl named Alice who believes to be a witch herself (she's not) attempts to make contact with the Charmed Ones. She breaks into the Manor and pleads to join their "coven" as she calls it. Prue becomes aggrivated and uses her power to throw her out the door. Gaining the bad side of this witch-wannabe, she begins to insist to news reporters that the witches are "bad witches." Some time later, Piper suddenly begins to heavily bleed from the stomach. It's found that Alice had found herself a sniper rifle and had shot Piper. Alice was soon arrested by police.

Frantic and upset, Prue rushes Piper out to the car with a plan to drive her to the hospital. When reporters and other bystanders refuse to let her pass, she explodes and uses her power to clear the path. Making it to the hospital, Prue is devastated to see the heart monitor go flat and realize that her younger sister is dead.

Down in the underworld, The Source informs Cole about all that is happening above ground. Not only have the sisters fallen into dangerous territory, all evil has been exposed as well, causing danger for evil as well. Leo, Phoebe and Cole come up with a solution to contact Tempus to reverse time. The Source knows that Tempus is weak and may die in this risky process, therefore he makes an offer. He will accept their request on one condition: Phoebe must remain in the underworld for the rest of her time.

Back in the hospital, special forces break in with special orders to shoot Prue. Throwing the soldier out, she locks herself in the operating room with a steel pipe. As a bullet is about to plunge into her chest, time suddenly rewinds to the point of Shax's first attack in the Manor. As like before, Prue and Piper are thrown into the wall and the doctor is killed. With Leo and Phoebe in the underworld, Shax is able to escape and Prue and Piper are left bleeding.

"The End" being the final words from Shax, the episode dims to a closing...

The reason Prue dies is because Cole, Leo and Phoebe manage to escape the underworld and return to the Manor. Unfortunately, Prue had been so badly wounded that her soul had left her body before Leo could have a chance to heal her. Piper, however, was still vaguely alive so Leo was able to heal her. Unable to heal the dead, Prue is killed. :(
