The Texian Rebels were surrounded and not going anywhere. Straggling units were still enroute, supply trains and heavy equipment were still enroute. There was no rush, it was going to be like shooting fish in a barrel, so he elected to rest his troops and consolidate his forces before pursuing the rebel army.
