The Renaissance in Europe was characterized by an interest in Greco-Roman humanist ideas. It also witnessed the development of vernacular literature in many European languages.
In my opinion the renaissance had 5 main effects. During the renaissance there were many advances in in science art literature religion and ideas. After the crusades Europe as a whole became very open to new ideas setting the basis for the renaissance. With this new mind set came literature, before then literature in Europe was almost non existent with the invention of the printing press people could share ideas, also with the printing press came mass production of bibles for the first time in historian. with this new mindset and access to the bible people began to second guess the church and its teaching and were able to develope there own perceptions. During the Middle ages the region was exclusively controlled by the Catholic church. this control also governed art. This meant all painting were strictly religious and the perception of human form very mutilated because of man's sinful nature. However the Renaissance brought about a new twist on Greek and Roman art which made completely transformed art giving artists freedom of creativity. Lastly science with the trade and openness to new ideas came the desire for knowledge with the boom of trade new ideas from around the world were coming together and some of the worlds greatest minds appeared and transformed out outlook and knowledge of science and the world around us.

Renaissance literally means "rebirth" in French. The Renaissance was important because changes were occuring that helped lead Europeans out of the middle ages. There were many discoveries of art, literature, and architecture
you need to specify the geographic region you are inquiring about. the most basic answer, about Europe, at least, is the Renaissance. The middle ages were coming to an end, the printing press was being invented, people we re-discovering knowledge gained by the Greeks and Romans, people were re-discovering the arts, architecture, technology, etc etc etc. But if you look elsewhere, you will get a different history, and even the answer of the European Renaissance is too broad, as the Renaissance hit in different times in different places, and the Renaissance itself can be defined in many, many different ways. For instance, in England around 1490-1500 Shakespeare was publishing his plays, but this form of the Renaissance had already taken place and passed in Florence, Italy, were many scholars agree the Renaissance started.
Answer from a CatholicI don't think that the Catholic Church has a defined opinion about the ideas and art of the Renaissance as such. I know that many of the Renaissance ideas are humanistic and many of the people at this time were Deists and opposed to the Church. The Renaissance, as a whole, spelled the death of the great Christian Middle Ages and put way too much emphasis on man and not enough emphasis on God.
that's like asking if a lion eats meat. Queen Elizabeth was the main person to influence the renaissance. without Queen Elizabeth the renaissance probably not have been the way it was, and earth today would be VERY different. she influenced the writes artists etc,,, and gave the means to create and have new ideas, she was the main person of the renaissance. Google it =)
Many books have been written to answer that question, but to be brief, the renaissance was the end of centuries of intellectual stagnation, and a brilliant flowering of important new ideas about many different subjects.

The development of Renaissance ideas and artistic achievements was critically supported by patrons playing the roles of financier, encourager, inspirational guide, and many others. In the Southern European Renaissance, for example, both the Church and leading aristocratic families played such decisive roles in identifying, supporting, and otherwise enabling important Renaissance figures to achieve in such ways as they did.

in general, only wealthy people had time to study classical texts and humanist ideas. as a result many middle and lower classes were not well educated and didn't participate in any Renaissance activities.

Renaissance society can not be described as being completely secular, as it was affected by many things that were religious. Art was generally dedicated to the church, new ideas about religion were brought forth, in particular the birth of Protestantism. Religious conflict was a huge characteristic of the Renaissance. It is decidedly non-secular (that is, not separate from Religion).
