Why was Sikhism formed?

Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism, believed that people of his time were indulging in fallacies such as the caste sytem and empty rituals. He began to teach a certain set of principles, including equality (between castes, sexes, religions etc.), forgiveness, thoughtful worship and so on. His followers, made up of Hindus, Muslims and Buddhists, became the Sikhs.

I'm not sure if this is the actual reason, but I think it is because Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism, his parents came from two different religions: Hinduism and Islam. Guru Nanak didn't want to follow any of those religions, so he founded Sikhism and followed his own religion.

Sikhism was founded to create a religion with equality between men and women, to live a natural and pure way of life, and to be attched with god at all times.

Although the true founder of Sikhism was the tenth guru Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the first guru Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji opposed from the very beginning: idolatry, ritual, an organized priesthood, and caste systems. He wanted something different to be created; a religion that was open to all and most of all a religion that gave one the right to do as they wished (which rare in the early 16 hundreds).

The Sikh religion started to end the Caste System. Caste system is putting people in an certain area based on wealth, health, etc. So someone in a higher caste was not allowed to talk to communicate to a person of lower caste

Sikhism began due to its founder member (Guru Nank) receiving divine inspiration whilst bathing in 1499. In the records of this time it states that Guru Nank was told by God to give away all of his possessions and travel spreading the word of God.
