President Woodrow Wilson pushed for democracy which caused the American public to make voluntary contributions to the war efforts. President Wilson also created the Fourteen Points which played a part in ending World War I.
One difficulty that Woodrow Wilson had to overcome in politics was his lack of popular support in the early years of his presidency. He lost, but instead of supporting Taft, he formed a new party and ran against Taft and the Democrat Wilson. He still had a lot of support and ran a good campaign, splitting the Republican vote. In fact, he got more votes than Taft, but allowed Wilson to win the election.
