Why did ancient Egypt put food in the mummy's sarcophagus?

The Egyptians left two 'big' organs in the mummy when preserving them. The heart, to be weighed by Anubis in the afterlife and the kidneys, simply because they were too hard to remove from the opening cut in the mummy.

☼The Pharaoh's liver was most likely put into a jar because of the After life. When someone was put into their pyramid, or what the Egyptians used as tombs, His liver was probally put into the jar so that later on, when he was re-born in the after life, he would be able to retreive it, and go on and live with Osiris.☼

Ancient Egyptians believed that after death a person would go through a transformation to a better life after death. After the embalming which took about 70 days the Opening of the Mouth ceremony was performed giving the body the ability to speak and eat again. For this reason they would need food for their journey. There were also many other items that would be needed in the next life that were put into the mausoleums of the wealthy Egyptians and Royalty.
