Why did Eminem perform at the 2020 Oscars?

I know “Lose Yourself” won an Oscar like a million years ago, but why’d they have him perform it now? Am I missing something?

No, you’re not missing anything. We’re all confused.

Eminem wasn’t up for any awards this year, and there was nothing that suddenly made “Lose Yourself” more culturally relevant this year. The rapper’s tweet about his performance implied that it was to make up for the fact that he couldn’t make it to the 2003 ceremony where “Lose Yourself” was honored with Best Original Song. And since the performance was introduced with a montage about the power of music in films, I guess that’s what made it make sense?

We’re all talking about it, anyway, and that was clearly the goal.

Eminem performs "Lose Yourself" at the Oscars, Feb. 9, 2020, at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. By the end of his performance, everyone in the star-studded audience was on their feet. "Lose Yourself" helped Eminem win an Oscar in 2003 -- for best original song. But he didn't come to the ceremony to accept it.

It felt a bit out of place with the stiffness of the oscars though, although I understand why they did it now since he is a former winner with his original song for 8 mile.

There weren’t many surprises when it comes to the statues being handed out at the Oscars 2020. But the audience, and viewers at home, got a big one when Eminem appeared on stage after a montage of great musical moments to perform his hit “Lose Yourself.” read more..
