Why did humans want to go into space?

Humans have always wanted to fly like the birds. To escape saber-tooth tigers and the like by taking to the air seemed like a perfect way to survive. After all, there were plenty of birds around, weren't there?

The sky had always seemed like the limit when it came to flying. But at night a new opportunity showed itself as space. It had many strange things, such as stars, moons and planets, as well as galaxies and asteroid belts. We have always sought to understand the world, and consequently the universe, around us better, and to do that we had to go into space.

Humans have been drawn to space exploration to satisfy curiosity about the unknown, to push the boundaries of knowledge and technology, and to pursue scientific discovery and innovation. Additionally, competition between nations during the Space Race era served as a driving force behind space exploration efforts.
