∙ 16y agoBecause John Adam's had written a letter to his friend which he wrote about how the war was inevitable and that they should have already raised a navy and captured British officials. This letter was confiscated. It arrived in Great Britain about the same time as the petition and the British used John Adam's letter as a way to claim that the Olive Branch Petition was insincere. So the king denied the petition.
