The terms were too harsh against Germany.

The only true reason why Wilson supported the Versailles Treaty was that he wanted to achieve world peace, and wanted to stop another war breaking out, which the Treaty of Versailles did, by reducing Germany's navy and army.
However, he did not want to weaken Germany too much, because if he did,
this would result in Germany seeking revenge at a later time, hence World War II.
How he did feel was that it was that it could accomplish some of his plans for international peace and freedom but since the Senate didn't approve of it America had no part in being in the League of Nations. He literally died for it.
He thought it was the only way to make the conflicting countries not start a war again and also he was over ruled be the European Powers.
