Because mainly all crusaders or Franks/Franj should have been Christians and Jerusalem was were Christ was said to have been most of his life, in that day and age people were very religious and the thoughta Muslims and other non Christians controlling the city also scared and angered them.

There had also been rumours that Muslims had been mistreating Christian pilgrims

and this, again angered them.

Simply because they were living there in peace as Arabs (Muslims. Jews, and Christians) and then it was occupied by the Israelis. East Jerusalem has been occupied since 1967 and contains many sacred Muslim places first of which is Al-Aqsa Mosque, which is the 3rd most holy Muslim Mosque in the world.

According to the tenets of Islam, Jerusalem is a holy city. The Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) made his Night Journey to the city. Additionally, the Dome of the Rock and several major mosques are within the city.

Currently, Christians have decided not to press a claim for control of Jerusalem, provided that they have access to their holy sites, seeing the Israeli and Palestinian claims cause enough turmoil. Historically, they wanted to control Jerusalem because of its central role in The Bible, particularly the Crucifixion.

Jerusalem is a sacred city. The Jews, the Christians and the Muslims consider it sacred and try to get control of this city. The Muslims first conquered this city during the reign of second Rightful Caliph Hazrat Omar RAU.

It was a Holy Place for both groups. I think it was where Mohammed left Earth when he died (please someone correct me if I am wrong). It is also where Jesus lived, but even earlier, it was the home of the early Hebrew kings.

Both parties wanted to control Jerusalem in order to have access to the holy sites within the city.

However, the "liberation" of Jerusalem was not the primary objective of the War. If it had been, the Crusades would have begun centuries earlier when Caliph Omar conquered Jerusalem and removed it from Christendom. The reason that the Crusades began was that the Byzantine Empire was being threatened and Constantinople (its capital) was being threatened by Turkish (Muslim) armies. As the Patriarchs and Leadership in Constantinople needed additional soldiers to defend their eastern borders, they requested assistance from the Pope. The Pope, in order to sell such an operation to Franks, Germans, Italians, and others who could care less about Byzantine problems was to stir up religious fervor and declare a Holy War. The primary objective was the stability of the Byzantine Empire, but the rallying cry was to free Jerusalem.

What two major religions are fighting over Jerusalem?

A:The dispute over East Jerusalem is not about religion, but about land. The Palestinians, who include Muslims and Christians, want to hold onto their homes in East Jerusalem, also making it the capital of Palestine. The Israelis, who are at least nominally Jewish, want to control all of Jerusalem, making it their capital and, as far as international law allows, dispossess the Palestinians.

What do the Muslims control that the Christians want?

Answer 1The Holy LandAnswer 2While Answer 1 may have been correct 800-1000 years ago, it is no longer correct. This is especially true since Israel (a Jewish State) controls much of the Holy Land. There is no specific piece of land that Christians want that Muslims have. Christians want Islamic Countries to legalize proselytization of non-Islamic faiths and equalize the treatment of non-Muslims. This is what the Muslims control that Christians would like the power to reverse.

Why the Christians were upset that the Muslims had gained control of the holy land?

Christians were politically upset, not religiously as claimed. They invaded the holy land just to get the political support of the church and of their people. When they got control of the lands, they used the Mosques, Muslims worship buildings, as stables for their horses and tortured Muslims. However, when the lands are under control of Muslims, before and after the Crusades, Christians were enjoying full freedom in practicing their ritual worships in a friendly and peacefully environment, as confirmed by Western historians.

Is Jerusalem a safe place for an American to live and work?

It is perfectly safe; the Arabs only wish to kill Jews, they don't want to kill anyone else. If you are not Jewish you should be alright. Jerusalem is probably the safest place to be in Israel. It is almost as sacred to Muslims as it is to Jews and Christians.

Why does control over Jerusalem create particular conflict?

Many people think of it as a holy place, the Jews and Muslims want it really badly. which causes fighting. the Muslims think it is their land and it's not fair that the Jews got it. and the Jews want to keep it because it is where they want to build their temple for when the mesiah comes.
