Cellular respiration generates ATP using a complex cycle of reactions and gradients. ATP is the driving force of life, so all cells in plants AND animals need to produce ATP to survive. Cellular respiration is the process that releases energy by breaking down C6H12O6 (Glucose) and other food molecules in the presence of O2 (Oxygen). After cellular respiration takes place, the end product is CO2 (Carbon Dioxide) H2O (Water) and "free" energy. The 62% of free energy left is released as heat, that is why you feel warm after you have exercised and are breathing heavy, a.k.a cellular RESPIRATION. So basically while you're breathing in oxygen, the food you ate contains sugar and carbohydrates that are going to be broken down to get more energy for you to continue walking, jogging, running, etc.

Living things need to carry out this process because without it, you wouldn't last more than 5-10 minutes out exercising because you wouldn't have any energy for you to carry out your daily activities. Oh yeah by the way, ATP stands for Adenosine Triphosphate, which is sort of like the cells battery because it is capable or storing and releasing energy. It stores the energy in the bonds between the phosphates.

Humans are consumers meaning they obtain their energy by eating other organisms. The most efficient method of obtaining energy from organic molecules is aerobic respiration. Therefore humans respire because it is the most effective method of obtaining energy from the food we consume.

so they can create energy to carry out necessary living processes they use the glucose in their body to create ATP (energy)

(glucose+oxygen---> water+carbon dioxide+ ATP (energy)

Living things differ from non-living things because living things can function by themselves and don't need to be controlled by humans.

Do shellfish poop?

yes they are living things and all living things have to: move, respire, eat, EXCRETE, reproduce, grow and one other thing but i cant remember. Anyway shellfish are living so they have to excrete, which is to poop.
