Why do applicants use references when they are seeking a new job?

Too see if a candidate has been responsible in previous employment and to determine if the candidate has experience at the kind of work for which he is applying. But it seems to be some type of fallacy (begging the question). The candidate will only give references who will give a credible reference.

∙ 15y agoThis is more of a scare tactic, if people leave out the references then the employer would assune that they are not very good. so most people will not apply if there references are not good. its just another way of cutting down on applicants.If you do put references the employer is still not allowed to contact them without contacting yourself first. To show legitimacy. Also true its a scare tactic. Basically it also shows you can get along with them even if you leave.

∙ 10y agoJob application forms are used for essentially the same reasons that any kind of forms are used. Since there are certain questions that the employer wants to ask of all the people who apply for jobs, it saves a lot of time to have those questions appear on a form, rather than having to ask them verbally. It is also true that if someone is actually hired, the information on the application form will be useful. Employers sometimes have to send mail (such as income tax forms) to their employees, and they therefore need to have their employees mailing address. That can be obtained from the application form.

What questions can be answered by current employer when you have applied for another job?
My suggestion to you is that if you are looking for a new job while you still have the current job, it is not uncommon to ask that the new company not jeopardize your current job by contacting your employer. Most businesses understand this and will honor your request. Also tell them that can provide references, but will want to contact those references in advance to ask their permission before you give out their names and numbers. But your employer can basically tell the interested company anything relative to the job you are doing for them. Things like your performance level, attitude, etc.
