Capillaries have thinner walls to absorb the nutrients and oxygen from the blood which flows through it and then transports it to the parts of the body which need the nutrients and oxygen to function.

The heart by itself isn't strong enough to move blood as far as it needs to go in the body. Arteries help by having elastic and muscular tissue that keep the blood moving. By contrast, veins are under very low pressure (no elastic tissue and very little muscular tissue) and they tend to run between muscle groups which, when they contract, squeeze the blood in the veins back towards the heart.

Compared to arteries veins?

Have thinner walls.

What blood vessels have thick walls?

Arteries have thick elastic walls that can expand and contract, because they carry blood pumped from the heart. Veins return the blood to the heart but the pressure is not the same as in the arteries.

How are the structures and functions of arteries capillaries and veins similar?

Arteries have thicker walls than veins because they are carrying blood away from the heart and so, in a sense, are working harder. Veins have thinner walls and contain valves to stop blood flowing backwards.

Capillaries form the connection between the arteries and veins?

Capillaries connect the smallest branches of arteries and veins The walls of capillaries are just one cell thick. Capillaries therefore allow the exchange of molecules between the blood and the body's cells - molecules can diffuse across their walls. This exchange of molecules is not possible across the walls of other types of blood vessel.

Are the walls in arteries thicker than the walls in veins?

The arterial walls are thicker because they need to withstand the pressure coming from the heart.

How thick are the walls of capillaries compared to those of arteries and veins?

Arteries and veins have much thicker walls compared to capillaries. The largest arteries and veins have walls up to 5 mm thick, while capillaries have walls that are only one cell layer thick.

What thin walls connects arteries and veins?

Arteries enter arterioles enter capillaries enter venules enter veins.

Which blood vessel is permeable?

Only capillaries have permeable walls; veins and arteries are not permeable.

What has thinner walls arteries or veins?

Arteries have thicker wall because the pressure in the arteries is much higher.

Why is it possible for diffusion to take place at the capillaries and not in the arteries and veins?

liquid can leak in and out of capillaries, and arteries and veins have such thick walls, and their jobs are just to bring blood to and from the heart. NO need for diffusion in these.

Are the walls of veins generally much thinner than those of the arteries?

Yes
