Atypical habitat niches and colony collapse disorder are reasons why honey bees nest in the ground. The bees in question tend to seek above-ground nests located in woody plants proximitous to food sources. They nevertheless will accept ground-nesting when their Biology is disrupted by the fatal colony collapse disorder or when their environment only offers cliff-top and ground-resting structures.

Down time, nearby nests and illness are reasons why bees crawl in the grass. Drones in particular may be seen crawling in grass after ejection from hives in winter and between mating flights. Some bees may be ground-nesters while others may be suffering from disease or wing problems.

What is the relationship of bee and a flower?

Mutualism - both species benefit from their relationship. The bee comes to the flower to collect nectar as food, and brushes against the anthers of the flower, which are covered in pollen. The bee moves to another flower to collect nectar and rubs the pollen off on the second flower's stigma, fertilizing the flower. Thus, the bee receives a source of food from the flowers, and the flowers are pollinated by the bee.
