Bees do not hibernate but remain active in winter, though they are unable to fly from the hive if it is too cold. For this reason they make honey as a food store for when they are unable to get nectar.

The dissolved nutrition is a reason why dog urine attracts honeybees. Animal urine may be a source of dissolved minerals, proteins, sugars and vitamins. The behavior resembles that of mud-puddling butterflies and people-touching damselflies and dragonflies.

Bees are attracted to various types of urine. Farmers believe this is because of the salts and minerals found in urine.
