Crabs live on the bottom of the ocean where it is nothing but sand and deep mud.

Pointed legs allow it to move across the bottom easier, if you have ever stepped in mud you will know it is harder to pull your foot out of it than to put it in, that is because having a foot at the bottom of your leg causes suction and resistence when trying to pull it out, point your toe down and it becomes easier.

Pointed leg means not getting stuck in the mud as much.

There are a few reasons why crabs have pointed legs such as using them to easily maneuver through sand. These legs anchor in the sand in order to push the animal forward.
