Deserts generally have low humidity and little cloud cover. The lack of these two factors allows the surface to warm quickly when the sun comes up. In the evening the lack of humidity and cloud cover allow the heat to quickly radiate back into space, cooling the desert.

Deserts generally have very low humidity so the dry air heats and cools much more rapidly than moist air would.

Why do deserts have a large temperature change everyday?

Deserts generally lack cloud cover and higher humidity that act as insulation and buffer the temperature changes during the day. Therefore, deserts heat up quickly during the day and cool down quickly at night.

Why are deserts hot and dry?

Not all deserts are hot. Some are cool and some are quite cold. It depends upon the geographic location of the particular desert. Those deserts which are hot and dry have little cloud cover and humidity that tends to moderate the climate - slowing heating during the day and holding heat at night. Therefore, the deserts get hot quite quickly during the day and cool off quickly at night.

When is it hot and cold in the desert - the night or the day?

In most hot or temperate deserts it may be quite hot during the day but can cool off quickly at night, especially in the summer.

Do all deserts get cold at night?

no it depends which desert it is . it is sometimes cool and fresh

Why do deserts experience a high diurnal range of temperature?

Deserts generally have few clouds and little humidity. These two factors would normally insulate the land from heating so much during the day as well as prevent the heat from radiating back into space at night. Since deserts lack these factors they heat up quickly during the day and cool quickly at night.

Why is it that during nighttime it is cold in the desert?

Most hot deserts quickly cool down at night because there is little humidity and cloud cover to hold in daytime heating. The heat radiates back into space and the desert become quite cool at night.

Is the desert cool?

Some deserts are naturally cool or even bitterly cold. The Patagonian Desert, Atacama Desert and Antarctica are examples of cold deserts. Other deserts are hot during the day but can become quite cool at night.

Where do you sleep in a desert?

What are the conditions of a desert environment during the day and at night?

There are hot deserts and there are cold deserts. Antarctica is the largest desert on earth and the days and nights are both bitterly cold. Hot deserts are hot during the day but quickly cool at night. Some cold deserts can be quite hot in the summer but bitterly cold in winter. The Gobi Desert is a good example.

What are the typical temperatures in deserts during the day and night?

That depends on two factors:1.) The location of the specific desert2.) The season of the year. There are hot deserts, there are polar deserts, there are cold winter deserts and there are cool coastal deserts.

Why are the deserts very cool at night times?

Generally, deserts have low humidity and little cloud cover. These two factors act as a blanket holding in daytime heating. Without that 'blanket' the heat radiates back into space at night. Deserts, therefore, cool off quite quickly and noticibly once the sun goes down.
