This yellow slimy stuff is the same as when a person throws up. the yellow is bile. Dogs have a high acidity level in their stomachs which is a good thing, it allows them to digest food easier. But when there's nothing in their stomach their digestive juices build up and this makes them nauseous. Try feeding your dog less food more often and bones in between so that their stomach acid always has some thing to work on and not your dogs stomach. So what your really seeing is no food just stomach bile.
