Best Answer

A bee will only sting if it feels under threat. If a bee approaches some people they will try to make it go away by swatting at it with their hands. To the bee this is very threatening -- so it is likely to sting.

The best thing to do is keep calm and keep your movements slow. The bee will lose interest in you and fly away. If not, just walk away from the bee.

Bees have stings in order to protect themselves, although they are normally used in defence of the colony, and not as an individual act of self defence.

The sting embeds itself in the flesh of the victim, and is torn out of the body of the bee, essentially dooming it (it dies), therefore as a self defence weapon it is not very effective.
