It's not that all humans read so slowly, because they don't. To be a fluent reader, you must already know that alphabet and its sounds that each word makes when pronouncing it correctly. Why human read so slow? It may be because that unlike the average brain, which has adapted over the centuries, that human's brain has also adapted, but possibly at a slower rate. When the humans come over a word that they may know, they may still be practicing to enunciate the word, therefore resulting in them reading slowly. Even if you see someone reading fast, it's not that they are gifted, because if you listen closely, they are reading so fast that they have no time to enunciate their words.
