Why do i want to get baptized?

People who want to be considered Christian should be baptized primarily because Jesus told the disciples to go and make other disciples baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost. (Matthew 28:19-20). A second reason is that a new believer in Christ would logically want to be identified with Jesus and one way is to be baptized. Most controversy regarding baptism in Christian churches is not why someone should be baptized, but how should a person be baptized. That issue raises all kinds of tempers with different denominational organizations. Bible literalists may want to be baptized in the Jordan River in Israel. Less literal groups may choose immersion baptism in some other water body or a baptismal font in a church. Non-literalists might be happy to be baptized with water by sprinkling. I once asked my pastor how he would baptize me if we were in a desert and there were no water. He thought a minute and answered, "I would spit on my hands and baptize you with that." I said "No can do; we are dried out, have cotton mouth, and can't spit or pass any other form of water!" He finally said he would baptize me with sand! I thought that reasonable. So, some may think immersion in "holy" water sanctified by all sorts of ritual and some may think in whatever is convenient with as little ritual as possible!
