Jelly fish are not true fish, so are members of a different animal class than are true, bony fishes. Jelly fish bodies are supported (or not) by hydrostatic pressure as opposed to bony skeleton.

Different organisms have different specialties. Jellyfish do not have skeletons but they do have poisonous stingers in their tentacles. Why don't human beings have tentacles with poisonous stingers? Because that is not our specialty.

Backbones is a character exclusive to the Phylum Chordata, while jellyfish belong to the Phylum Cnidaria.
