The only difference is who the primary is: If the primary is a planet, the orbiting object is called a natural satellite, or moon.

∙ 14y agoActually the planets do not orbit Earth. Like Earth, they orbit the sun. However, the Moon orbits Earth. We observe the planets rising in the eastern night sky and setting in the west, but this is apparent motion resulting from the spinning of Earth on its axis.

The Moon is held in orbit around the Earth by the gravitational pull of the Earth. The Earth is held in orbit around the Sun by the gravitational pull of the Sun. All astronomical bodies in the universe have some gravity. The larger ones usually have more gravity. Also, both the Earth orbiting the Sun and the Moon orbiting the Earth,they have enough speed to orbit but don't have enough speed to escape from their orbits.
