Well first of all, lets just say you had a leaf and held it in the sun and it cast a shadow on the ground right below your feet. This happens because when the white light that the Sun gives off hits the leaf, the leaf absorbs every color in the white light.....except for green, that is the only color that is scattered and given off from the leaf. When the "green" light is reflected, it makes contact with the constant sunlight, and when two light waves collide it either becomes a bigger light source, or they cancel each other out and it creates shadow. Im 13 and hope this helped.

A shadow is an area where direct light from a light source cannot reach due to obstruction by an object. It occupies all of the space behind an opaque object with light in front of it. The cross section of a shadow is a two-dimesional silhouettes, or reverse projection of the object blocking the light. The sun causes many objects to have shadows and at certain times of the day, when the sun is at certain heights, the lengths of shadows change.

An astronomical object casts human-visible shadows when its apparent magnitude is equal or lower than −4. Currently the only astronomical objects able to produce visible shadows on Earth are the sun, the moon and, in the right conditions, the planet Venus. :-)

Transparent objects (such as a glass) do not cast shadows in the same way that opaque objects do, however, they may still cause a visible distortion in the light, by means of refraction.

When will an object cast 2 shadows?

Yes, it can. A shadow is caused by the interruption of light from a single source. If you have more than one light source, you can have more than one shadow. Some shadows may not be as distinct (diffused light, shadow on brightly lit surfaces, etc.), and multiple shadows will practically always overlap to some extent.

What is created when light is blocked?

darkness is produced in absence of light darkness is produced in absence of light

What is the difference between transparent translucent and opaque?

a transparent object is one that lets light pass through with no shadows formed eg. clear window , transparent glassa translucent object lets only some light go through (not all)and forms a shadow that is very light eg. bathroom windowan opaque object lets no light pass through and forms a shadow eg. table, chair, etc

What causes a shadow to form?

An object (Materials) that does not allows anylight to pass through will form a shaddow:Eg.- Opaque ( Can't let any light to pass through)- Translucent (Allows a little bit of light to pass through)If you want to make sure Im correct do this experiment:Instruments:- A Cloth ( Opaque)- A torch- A Tracing paper ( Translucent)- A screenPlaces to do:- A dark roomHow to do? :- Use your torch and shone on the cloth facing on the screen, what will you see?- Use your torch and shone on the tracing paper on the screen, what will you see?You will see an unclear shadow and a clear shdow on the screen! You may also add one more item a Transparent object! You will see I'm quite correct...Shadows are formed by light, because if light shines onto an object, and the object blocks the light, the light will go sideways of the object, and therefore, a shadow is formed.Light can only travel in straight lines. If light is coming from one main source, then an object that does not allow light to pass through it, will have an absence of light behind it, i.e.a shadow.

Why does a shadow form behind an opaque object?

Light from the sun (or any other source) travels in particles, which strike objects and are often partially absorbed. A shadow forms behind a tree because when the particles hit the tree, they are absorbed and reflected, so that everything on the other side of the tree, where the light would have gone, receives no light. However, some light will bounce off of other objects and go behind the tree in the other particles' place. Since this other light will already have been partially absorbed, it will be more dim than direct light. Because of this, we are able to see in the shadow, but since the light there is not as strong, it is darker. This darker region behind the tree, is the shadow.

Why does an object cast shadow on a screen 7 std science?

When a opaque object is placed between the source of light and the screen light from the source falls on a screen aceept some part which looks the shape of the object the Part of the screen wre high does not fall due to the object is called a shadow

What affects was the size of a shadow?

The size of a shadow depends on, the angle that the light source is hitting the object and the size of the object. In some cases, the amount of light can also affect the size of a shadow.

Why can't we see shadow of bird flying up in the sky?

A shadow forms when light is blocked. Consider a light source, an object that might or might not cast a shadow, and a surface on which the shadow might or might not be cast. In order to cast a shadow, the object must block ALL light from the source reaching the surface. Now, the sun is not a pinpoint source of light, but a massive body, about 1.4 billion meters in diameter. And every point on the surface of the sun that is facing us is casting light in our direction. That object, in this case the bird, must block all of that light from reaching some area on the surface in order to cast a shadow. The higher a bird flies, the smaller area it can block sunlight from reaching. When this area reaches zero, no shadow is cast. Think of it this way. In order for an object to cast a shadow, it must "appear", from the surface, to be larger than the light source. It's apparent size must be sufficient to completely hide the light source if placed in front of it (between the light source and a point on the surface). The higher the object is, the smaller it appears to be. It is easy to see that, at say 50 feet, all but the largest birds would not appear big enough to block out the sun, and would therefore cast no shadow.

Why there is no penumbra in shadow of sun?

The sun has no shadow. A shadow is the region that light from the source can't reach because there is some object in the way. But the sun is the source of light in the solar system. No object can prevent the sun's light from reaching the sun.

How tall a tree that cast a shadow measures 20 meter long?

There are two factors involved in casting a shadow: the height of the object and the direction (angle) of the light source. Generally, problems like this include the time of day or the angle of the sun or a comparison to some other object. As written, it is not possible to answer this question unequivocally.

How do you add a drop shadow in excel 2007?

It depends on what you are trying to add it to. You are not able to add a drop shadow effect to a cell, but you can add add a drop shadow to charts and some other objects. It just depends on what you are trying to do. If the object allows drop shadow effects, you will get to the option through the object's format options. Right-click on the object and select the format option (will be in different locations on the drop-down menu, depending on the object) and follow the directions in the format window.

Is a shadow translucent?

The shadow is not a solid 'black' colour. It can be the same colour as the object and the shadow allows you to see through it more than an opaque objects shadow. An opaque object would block the light but a translucent object would give a shadow that you could quite easily see through

What happens when you keep a opaque object in front of light?

There are many things that happen when you block light with an object. Some of the common things that would happen include reflection and refraction of the light.

What makes a big shadow so blurry?

I've had to make some assumptions about what you're really asking here; if I'm wrong, please clarify your question and ask again. A "big" shadow usually happens when the object casting the shadow is a long way from the surface it's casting the shadow on. Light refracts and spreads, and the more distance it has to do this in, the more it refracts and spreads. The combination of the two factors means that a "big" shadow, where the surface is a long distance from the object casting the shadow, is likely to be more blurry than a "small" shadow where the object is near the surface.
