A temperature increase is an increase in the thermal energy of an atom. The energy must be used somehow, since energy cannot be created or destroyed, but only transferred. The transferred energy has no where to go and thus makes the atom vibrate more, which is a known result when atoms absorb energy.

Temperature is a measure of average kinetic energy. When something is hot it means that the temperature is high. Because the temperature is high it means that the average kinetic energy is high which would mean that the molecules are moving quickly.
