Well reasons for doing a pilgrimage:
A)It could be really fun
B)It would get you to your inner self
C)To find God in yourself
That's a reason to do Pilgrimages it's mostly for people who have a religion.
So for example you might be a christen so you want to go to Bethlehem to get in touch with God.
In 1858, Our Lady appeared to Bernadette Soubirous. She is now St. Bernadette. Since that time millions of people come to Lourdes each year to see where the apparitions happened and see other places associated with the life of St. Bernadette. While there, people pray, go to mass, go to the special baths, spend time in the grotto where the apparitions occurred and take part in other activities that happen in Lourdes, like the candlelight procession each evening.
the kind of people that go on pilgrimages, are people that want forgiveness for their sins!
to stregthen their faith and deepen their connection with God and show devotion by going to a place of significance, e.g. where Jesus was born, taught, died etc
I can imagine that a Roman Catholic considers Rome a holy city.
To have fellowship with other believers and to learn more about God.
They can, and many do. Some because they feel God is calling them into a certain country, city, even a specific job (which could be a mental pilgrimage)
they were upset
