People live in Arizona because they like hot weather. When you're driving on a highway in Arizona, you can smell the orange blossoms on the trees. Also, instead of grass, they have gravel on the sides of the roads, with lizard designs and stuff. It's truly amazing.
The answer that many respond with is that they were passing through on their way to or from California or Las Vegas and saw many marvelous things for only a brief glimpse. They always wanted to come back and see it as a destination when they had the time for an extended vacation.
