== == Most puppies don't eat slugs and earthworms if you keep them inside, but they probably wouldn't anyway. Also, if they do it, it's probably because they don't know any better. Puppies use taste to explore their world, just as human babies do. A lot of what they "eat" isn't actually swallowed. I've never heard of a dog developing a taste for worms and slugs although I've owned one who liked to eat lizards. Puppies will pick up anything that they see. They don't know what they are supposed to eat, and yes they are exploring their world in the only way that they can. They don't eat only slugs or earthworms, they swallow small things that they found, because they don't know what's eatable.

Yes, some dogs eat earthworms. I have a golden retriever/rottwieler mix and she loves earthworms. She actually seems to sniff them out in the yard and dig them up so she can eat them. Today she came in the house with a swollen face; apparently BooBoo tried to eat a bee or hornet instead of an earthworm.

sometimes they do that because they are in need of a meal and find them appealing so instead of eating grass or something they eat those because they are slimy and they sometimes need that.plus besides they have a lot of protein.
