Good question. Other systems, parliamentary systems for example, have many more political party opportunities than simply two. Of course Americans are not mandated to have two political parties and there are other 'third' parties. Like the Green Party and the Libertarian Party.
Americans either, just like it that way and are loathe to change, or really don't pay a lot of attention to politics in general.

The answer is the difference between democrates and republicans. Republicans develope so democrates can structure class. The takers (democrates) and the doers (republicans). If allowed the democrates would have us all giving so their "chosen" could have everything and then pitey all of us without.
In the primaries we have to declare which party we want to vote for, so you cannot vote for some democrates and some republicans!
